Peter Finke ist Ordentlicher Professor für Ethnologie an der Universität Zürich seit 2006 und Mitglied des Universitären Forschungsschwerpunkts “Asien und Europa”. Er ist zudem zum SEG-SSE Präsidenten gewählt (mit Wirkung ab 01.01.2012), Mitglied im Editorial Board der Brill’s book series Eurasian Studies Library, Leiden, NL und wissenschaftlicher Beirat der Publikationsreihe Gesellschaften und Staaten im Epochenwandel (GSE). Auch ist er Vorstandsmitglied bei der Schweiz. Asiengesellschaft SAG. Peter Finke studierte Anthropologie und Zentralasiatische Studien in München, Göttingen und Berlin. Er machte seinen M.A. an der Freien Universität Berlin (1994), doktorierte an der Universität Köln (1999) und habilitierte an der Universität Leipzig (2006). Von 2000 bis 2005 war er wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter am Max Planck Institut für Soziale Anthropologie, und 2005 wurde er Leiter der Forschungsgruppe Zentralasien. Von 2002 bis 2003 war er Gastprofessor an der Universität New Hampshire, U.S.A. und von 2004 bis 2006 an der Middle East Technical University, Ankara, Türkei.
